The World Poker Tour organized a Classic Tournament with a bit more than 1 million dollars for the winner. The big event took place in L.A. at the Commerce Casino and gathered over 500 players from different nationalities and several big names like Jeremy Ausmus, who finished 4th in the last World Series of Poker Main Event. Six days lasted the poker championship but in the end only one lucky winner was crowned and took home the incredibly juicy money prize.
Paul Klann prowess is not just limited to winning a huge sum of money; the real achievement is he came out victorious with a shark-infested field where many of them actually had amazing results in the past versions of the WPT tourneys. More than 40 first-place owners were involved in this competition and the final table featured big rounders like Paul Volpe and Toby Lewis; who also had a great run finishing second ($651.000) and sixth ($193.500) respectively.
Paul Klann has written his name with golden letters in the history of the game and the World Poker Tour, he has become the eleventh master to join a hyper exclusive poker ranking where only nosebleed-level champions have a spot reserved:
L.A Poker Classic Champions
1st season Gus Hansen $532K
2nd season Antonio Esfandiari $1.3M
3rd season Michael Mizrachi $1.8M
6th season Phil Ivey $1.5M
8th season Andras Koroknai $1.7M
11th season Paul Klann $1.0M
After over 200 hands in the final table Klann took most chips from Volpe’s stack thanks to his KT versus a Jh9h of Volpe that didn’t get completed after the river despite there were already two cards of the same suit on the board. Volpe had to shove his 9Toff with his last 600K chips and he found his rival had Q5off. The flop came J 8 4 rainbow giving the short-stacked player an open ended straight draw (OESD). The 2 on the turn was a blank that gave Klann an even better chance to take the pot and then an Ace of spades marked the end of the tournament with a smiling Paul Klann and a satisfied Volpe.
The winner didn’t only take the money and the honors for prevailing on such a monster field; he will also have a secured seat at the WPT World Championship that will take place in the end of the season which entry fee ascends to twenty five thousand dollars. To remember the glorious moment he’s having right now he was also given a shiny Remington Trophy to brag at home.
