With the OPWC poker hint of this week you will be able to eradicate some mistakes you might have been making when you participate in Sit n’ Go tournaments. Read slowly and ask yourself if you have been careful enough with the following basic but vital pre-flop aspects of your game.
1. Raising Wrong Amounts
When you decide to raise you have to be clear on the reaction you want from the rivals; do you want them to fold? Do you want them to pay increasing the value of your strong hand? Whether your intentions are, remember that a poor bet will attract many drawing holdings into the pot reducing the power of yours. It shouldn’t be too high either or the possible revenue will be reduced dramatically as more contenders will tend to quit the round. According to the books, standard pre-flop raises are between three and four times the size of the big blind; that way you’ll get the information you need to decide what to do next.

2. Chronic Limping
Strategies where limping is rentable are suited for other kind of tournaments but not for SnGs. The reason you have to adapt an aggressive style is because the price to play each round increases considerably quick and your chip stack might not resist this tendency. Study the field, make a move when it’s time, but remember folding is also a wise choice.

3. Marginal Hands
As we mentioned on the previous paragraph you have to be aggressive with your good hands but conservative when they are not worth the try. You can take a shot at the pot with your marginal hands if your position and the earlier actions are favorable, but you have to be sure you’ve made appropriate readings of your competitors. If you decide to play get ready to win big or go home because the probabilities of losing with marginal holdings is high.
