Don’t put your valuable chips on every hand you are dealt; it’s true that every holding has the potential to win but you have to analyze several factors before taking action at the table. Choose wisely: take all the profit you can from your good hands but drop the trashy ones on time. There will be tourneys, especially at lower limits, where you can easily finish in the money just by playing tighter than your rivals.
2. Avoid Chasing Mirages
Staying on a hand which is very expensive for your chip stack just because you trust luck and hope to see the miracle card coming out is not smart at all. You have to measure first if the possible win justifies your investment. Remember that great hands could become losers depending on the board, so play cautious and learn when to fold.
3: Read Your Contenders
In poker you rather play the man than your cards. Stay alert to your opponent’s moves and use that information to your advantage. Do they play many hands? What hands have they been playing? Are they aggressive? When they are, what hands did they have?
