South America ratified the great moment they’re going through at the Online Poker World Championship. Today the third Period Final with a juicy $500 dollar prizepool took place at Winner Poker, one of the accepted poker rooms, which is also giving free poker sponsorships to players who want to start competing for the World Title at theOPWC.
12 players who managed to finish within the top 40% during the third period joined the match that began at 20:00 GMT. The whole field started playing conservative poker given there were high chances to cash as the first 8 of the 12 were going to receive a chop of the big cake. Sometime later the eliminations started and one of the first participants to go out was the known grinder from Australia’s team Mario “oMUZZAo” Tomic who despite playing a good quality game was being hit by better hands on the opposite side. The Aussie grinder said good bye on 11th position and kept on watching; but there was a lot of action right after his elimination when Claudiu “4Soul” Mihail took down a reckoned player inside the competition: David Hernandez, the Colombian player who’s making a nice appearance this period running 8th with over 200 units. The Romanian shark connected a set of sevens on the flop and he used his technique to keep his opponent in the pot, in the end after a couple raises the Colombian showed pocket aces that were useless against 4Soul’s hand.
Other well-known players like “Ellie91” were able to survive the bubble and she cashed $25 for her 7thspot in the tournament. “RoyalJoker” who is the current number 7 of the fourth period made it also to the money and he took home $60 for his 4th place finish. But the final three were playing some of the best poker seen so far in the competition. 2 deep stacks: “4Soul” and “Estudiantes” were apparently in command of the table while one short stacked tried to survive and double his chips at all cost “UndeR4everX”.

The tourney flowed normally with small swings of chips to this and that player but then the short stack got his lucky hand and double his chips; some time later “4Soul” and “UndeR4everX” went hard before the flop and the pot was for the last leaving “4Soul” virtually out of the competition with less than one thousand chips that he shoved next hand to be eliminated by “Estudiantes” who made the call as well as the other deep stack in an attempt to take the short out for good. They got what they wanted and the Romanian tiger said good bye and took his $80 dollar prize.

After a long and marvelous heads up the Argentinian player made it to the first position defeating his rival and increased his bankroll in $150, the last hand he holded a pair of Aces and his rival who was already short stacked saw his last chips going to his rival’s seat. That concluded the tourney and the South American grinder couldn’t believe he was actually the number 1 between the best of best of the third period at the OPWC.
There’s another Period Final coming very soon and all those who can make it to the top 40% this round are going to have a direct ticket to it and a piece of the next $500. This period has been hectic as top ten has already crossed the 200 point mark but there’s plenty of time and spots to qualify for the next great freerolls offered by the World Championship. Stay tuned for another release of the OPWC poker news.
